A re-presentation of the classic, true-life adventure novel by Sir Ernest Henry Shackelton, illustrated with Frank Hurley's on site photography, about his and his crews almost three year survival in Antartica.
I worked with Faceout Studios to develop a cover design that gave a classic, early 20th century—but also very cold—feel Printed on pearlesent paper and with an additional, irredesent blue ink; the cover looks like a block of ice.
Even with 374 pages, it was a challenge to fit Shackelton's text and still give the 200+ images the space they deserved. I included various textured backgrounds through out the book to carry on the ice and adventure theme.
